Such undertakings are designed to provide clients with assurances, or otherwise, on the condition of the installations, their capability in meeting acceptable design conditions or clients' aspirations, likely life expectancy of plant, equipment and distribution systems and compliance with relevant statutory requirements.

Where relevant, recommendations are made as to the alternative courses of action available in rectifying any shortcomings identified with an indication of their degree of urgency.
